ARCHAEOLOGY FOR ALL - thematic tours in the museum

4/1/2019 11:02:00 AM

From April, the Regional Archaeological Museum - Plovdiv, launches its free tours titled "Archaeology for all". The title is not accidental – the themes will be presented comprehensibly and the conversations with the guides will be part of the experience. The themes themselves are chosen according to the visitors’ interests so far and with time they will change and develop. After buying a regular ticket, everyone will be able to join the guides and hear their narrative about little known objects from the museum exhibition, as well as to learn interesting stories related to the archaeologists’ activity.

With these thematic talks the museum team has set a goal to enrich the awareness of the general public for the ancient past of Plovdiv and the region. The aim is to make the museum a more accessible place, where everyone could start their weekend in a different way – by broadening their knowledge.

The first talk from the series “Archaeology for all”, which will take place on April 6, is titled “The treasures’ secrets”. The public will have the opportunity to learn the stories behind the most famous objects from the museum’s collection – the helmet mask from Kamenitsa, the burial gifts from Chernozemen tumulus and, of course, the famous Panagyurishte treasure. The narrative about the finds will be enriched with details about the work of the first Bulgarian archaeologists who carried out excavations in Plovdiv and the region.

Tours will take place every Saturday from 10:30 h. Initially they will be only in Bulgarian, but the museum plans to add English tours later on. In order to participate, you should pre-register, since the places are limited. Whether you love history or you know nothing about it – “Archaeology for all” is for you!
